"Something Borrowed"

As we all know, fashion comes in and out from generation to generation. This is probably why it is so hard for me to clean out my closet because that little voice in the back of my mind is saying in a few years, those men's dress ties used as belts might come back in. (Ok.. so those are highly unlikely, I was in an Avril Lavigne stage in 8th grade). BUT style essentials like this Ralph Lauren striped sweater  from the 90's that I stole out of my mom's closet (sorry mom!) will always be a classic. I wanted to feel put together but casual this day, so I paired this sweater with jeans and riding boots. A perfect match for a fall day!

Scarves and Stripes

This outfit is my absolute favorite for fall, no doubt about it. I love the look of the thick striped leggings (my brothers call me "beetle juice" when I wear them..thanks guys) paired with the over sized white shirt. It is so simple but still makes a statement. Throw on a knitted scarf and patent leather oxfords to complete the laid back look. Who says you can't be comfy and fashionable at the same time?

DIY Tutorial: Vogue Inspired Embellished Cross

Hello, Hello! So lately I've been feeling super crafty and after always obsessing over this beautiful Vogue cover from the 1980's (Anna Wintour's first cover as Editor-in-Chief), I decided to create one based off of the original. The original was $10,000.. mine was $20. Below, I show you how to create it in 4 easy steps that took less than an hour.

Materials you will need: Plain black pullover, plastic jewels, gold material, and fabric glue

Step 1: Measure and cut out a cross out of the gold material
Step 2: Using the fabric glue, apply it to the outline of the cross.

Step 3: Position the cross on the material and press down to secure the fabric glue.

Step 4: Position all the gems on the cross and glue down to secure.

A Hint of Mint

Happy October! I can't believe it is the first day of October and it is still so hot. Like true California weather, the heat is lingering around a little longer and not letting us pull out our boots and heavy sweaters just yet. This light-weight sweater with peek-a-boo arm cut outs is PERFECT for a fall day when it's too hot to wear layers but just breezy enough to wear anything other than a tank top. I love the hint-of-mint look paired with leather leggings, ballet flats, and a touch of gold!

Make sure to check out Juliana Ljubisavljevic's blog to catch up on her most recent pictures. She takes credit for these beautiful shots! http://julianaljubisavljevic.tumblr.com/

Hey There, Stud

Hey There, Studs! First off, I am so sorry I have been MIA these past 2 weeks. I just began my junior year of college as a journalism major, a new internship with Sacramento Fashion Week, and just finished sorority recruitment that I put on for my university's campus. But I am back and ready to dive into all of fall's latest fashions! I have been so lucky to get the opportunity to collaborate on a few outfits with my sorority sister, who is also an amazing photographer, Juliana Ljubisavljevic. She is so talented and can capture any moment beautifully! If you are ever looking for photographer, she is definitely my first recommendation. Take a look at her blog showcasing her work: http://julianaljubisavljevic.tumblr.com/.

This week's blog post is centered around studs and embellishments. Since it is officially fall now, I put together this outfit to showcase one of this season's hottest trends. Pair the two together for a mix of edge and girly all in one outfit!

A Little Slice of Heaven in Midtown: HEART Boutique

My first assignment for my internship as a writer for Sacramento Fashion Week was to interview a boutique owner, so of course my mind went straight to my favorite little slice of heaven in Midtown Sacramento-- HEART. I got to chat with owner, Vanessa Lopez, about the latest fall trends and how her boutique plays a role in Sacramento's fashion industry.

Love, Kate: What inspired you to open up a boutique?
Vanessa Lopez: I was always into fashion and had worked in retail and other boutiques for a number of years. When one boutique closed, I missed being around it so I opened my own.  I have a passion for working with local people.

LK: What audience does Heart cater towards?
VL: Trendy females who are ahead of the curve. Our age range usually is 19-35 years old.

LK: What are your favorite upcoming fall trends?
VL: Embellishment and Green military jackets are always a staple.

LK: Do you think Sacramento can ever compete with bigger cities and be known as a "fashion capital"?
VL: Sacramento has smaller numbers than bigger cities but I think we can. There are very fashionable people living in Sacramento.

LK: How would you describe Sacramento's fashion "style"?
VL: Casual Cool.

LK: How does Heart contribute to Sacramento's growing fashion industry?
VL: By providing new fashion trends at affordable prices.

If you are ever looking for a trendy outfit to wear or a chic piece to update your closet with, Heart is the first place that should be on your list. You can find it at 1903 Capital Avenue in Midtown Sacramento.

Labor Day Love

I'm sorry I have been so MIA this week! I left for beautiful Rancho Palos Verdes, CA on Thursday morning to be a bridesmaid in my good friend's wedding. The whole weekend was gorgeous and I could not have imagined any other way for the two of them to have a wedding. I only have one picture of what I wore to her rehearsal and rehearsal dinner (with all the events, I didn't have much time to take pictures!). It is a Dorothy Perkins dress paired with a $5 clutch I found at TJ MAXX. I love the lace trim on the bottom hem of the dress! This ensemble is definitely one of my favorites. I hope everyone had a safe & happy labor day weekend!
